Tongzhou District is a district of Jiangsu, China. It is under the administration of Nantong city. It was formerly a county-level city (Tongzhou), but in 2010, Nantong annexed Tongzhou. It has a population of 1246400 until the end of 2010.

Local culture

Shigang Town is located beside the Yangzi River where residents made a living mainly by salt making and fishing in ancient times. In 860 A.D, Yuhunagdian ([Chinese]]: 玉皇殿) was built and six year later, the palace of the Emperor Taizong of Tang (Chinese: 李世民)was rebuilt as the Guangyuan Temple. From the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, a plenty of temples were built in Shigang Town.[1]
